Tuesday, November 8, François Vernaz, an organic vegetable grower in Foissac, installed every Tuesday afternoon on rue du Chateau, offered his customers a tasting of roasted chestnuts. For the occasion, his stand and that of Annie Cristofoli, producer of goat cheese, also organic, were located on the Place de l’Avenir, in front of the village hall.
It was in a handcart that the stumps were burned to produce the embers that would roast the chestnuts. Before eating the Ardèche chestnuts, those present in the square could drink a bowl of soup made with different varieties of gourds flavored with spices.
This warm drink was appreciated, especially when the weather was cool after sunset. Then everyone had their portion of chestnuts, accompanied by a glass of wine, red or white, or fruit juice. There was even a cartagena brought by the mayor. A very happy initiative on the part of François, who offered a moment of friendliness and sharing. The little ones had fun playing in the square while their parents tasted and talked.
