This Sunday in Marles-les-Mines, the Soups and Gardens show intends to put ‘colours on your plates’. Pierre-Mendès-France High School will offer ” try five different colored soupsannounced Jean-Luc Lambert, president of the organizing association, Clarence Tourisme Animations. There will be red, with pepper and tomato; orange, pumpkin and carrot; the yellow, around the onion; White turnips; and the green one, with courgettes and leeks. Only the blue will be missing but some ingredients for smurf soup are hard to come by – the war in ukraine, all that…
Jean-Luc Lambert promises surprises: ” Turnip does not inspire many people, but our soup is very good! As every year, those who want to prolong the pleasure of the tasting can buy the recipe book, sold at a price of 2 euros.
Lentils and pickles
On the garden side, the forty stalls focus on local producers. ” We will have young farmers from Allouagne who have started growing black and green lentils – they don’t only grow in Le Puy – who also grow grain mustard. There will also be a pickle specialist who also raises pigs on straw. You will also find blocks, shallots, onions, yogurt, cheeses, ice creams, butter, jams, rabbits, sausages, pates… There will also be gardeners, beekeepers or snail farmers.
In the entertainment department, a wood sculptor from Saint-Pol-sur-Ternoise will give demonstrations. There will be games for adults – guessing weights, charades, quizzes… – and for children – decorating pots and planting hyacinth bulbs in the soil. Finally, the agglomeration will host an anti-waste workshop – how to make soup with ugly or slightly spoiled vegetables – and a gardener will talk to visitors about his experience and best practices.
” We don’t want a living room where people just walk aroundinsists Jean-Luc Lambert. We want them to stop and talk, have a really good time. Last year, the show attracted 2,000 visitors and served 4,000 cups of soup.
